Just like Jonathan, I also participate in the 3 days of "Physique en fête" at the CNRS in Grenoble. Yesterday my group of high school students learned about superconductivity.
In several very nice experiments, the students got a hands-on introduction to this intriguing macroscopic quantum effect.
We observed the vanishing resistance below Tc as well as levitation of heavy magnets. Finally, as an example of an application, we got a demonstration of a levitating train which is really nice to watch. But see for yourself!
